ETHNIC AND CULTURAL
DIVERSITY
The D&I work focuses mainly on shipyards, where people from 16 different nationalities work, and is articulated across various fronts:
Survey diversity and inclusion, integration at shipyards
Launch of a survey aimed at Site Directors and foreign workers.
Safety Inclusion and Training
Upon hiring, each worker receives, translated into their native language, the INAIL brochure on safety basics. Training on important content at high-relevance sites is provided by Gencantieri trainers with the support of a bilingual worker who translates in real-time. Pre-courses are also activated upon client request at some sites to test and improve Italian language comprehension.
Inclusion
Some workers at the shipyards practice Islam. To address their needs, Gencantieri has created a safety campaign for Ramadan with tips to prevent health risks related to fasting and high temperatures. A poster in both Italian and Arabic is displayed at the sites. In several sites, canteens/agreements for meals respecting all dietary regimes are active, and site reports are translated into Arabic as needed. Additionally, to raise awareness among Italian workers about the possible difficulties (language, safety, experience, etc.) that foreign workers may face, a dedicated information sheet is shared at each site.
